Ideas for DD's Birthday Cake?

I'm looking to make some sort of white cake with a fruit layer for her b-day? I've got the white cake part down :P~ but am kind of lost as to what to use to make the fruit layer. Anybody know what works for that? Thanks! :)

I think most use jams or other fillings. You pipe a rim of frosting around the edge of the cake top and fill in the rest of the space with jam or filling, stack the two layers and then ice the rest of the cake with the frosting. :shrug I could be wrong though. Maybe CakeLady knows.
