I need ideas for hidden shoe storage

Our front door opens right into our living room. Its driving me crazy to have all the shoes and umbrellas dropped right on the floor. Anyone have ideas for creative storage? I dont want it to really show the shoes if possible. Ideas?

What about a chest by the door to toss those items in? Something you could close the lid on. We have a coat closet, but it's invariably a mess. I'm hoping to get a shoe rack for the back of the door.

What about a storage ottoman? You could use it for shoes and extra seating. :)

good suggestions. I actually have a hope chest i suppose I could use. Its just a style that doesnt quite fit my living room. Maybe I'll have DH make me an ottoman and cover it with a fabric I like.

we have a small chest (like a hope chest but about 5x's smaller) that sits next to the door for our shoes. I love it b/c we don't have an entry closet so its very handy!
