Age appropriate behaviour guidelines?

Any ideas on links or books to read to find out what is age appropriate behaviour. Our lil' 2 1/2 year old seems so cluey and like he understands a lot - I'd like an idea of what he really does know/understand.

I really like the "Your X year old" books by Ames and Ilng. (I'm sure I butchered the names, I'm tired). They have great insight into the minds of little people, even if their discipline advice is a bit off.
