Can I give a 5 yo who weighs 45 lbs a regular strength tums? It's just calcium carbonate right? I think J has reflux. He is always complaining about his tummy hurting and I've been giving him children's pepto, but he can only have 3 in a 24 hour period. He had really bad reflux when he was a baby and was on zantac, but he went off that around age 20 months. He has a dr appt, but not for a few weeks. So I was thinking about tums..... I tried getting him to eat slippery elm bark which will help, but he won't eat it. I don't blame him, it's slimy and gritty!

When I worked at a daycare we had a bottle of tums for any tummy complaints. That wasn't even listed on teh permission forms parents had to sign, so I guess it's ok- if a daycare doesn't' think they'll get sued over it :P
