Proper care of a mortar & pestle?

I had no idea where to put this question. :O


I'm borrowing my parents' mortar & pestle to grind homeopathic pellets for DS.

My question is, "How do I clean it?"

It's ceramic. The head of the pestle & the inside of the mortar is unglazed. The outside is glazed.

I know with stoneware, you're not supposed to use soap. Is this the same?

I already washed it with hot water & Castile soap. :shrug

Am I supposed to clean it before grinding something new so the old & new don't mix?

We use these to grind meds at the hospital, and just rinse with water and wipe with a paper towel between uses. :shrug
