View Full Version : best place to get overstuffed/oversized pillows for a couch (CHEAP)

I need some ideas.

Our couch pillows have been sewn and re-sewn (seams come apart and then dogs rip out stuffing, it's not a pretty site) and are just on their last leg. They look awful. Hubby said, "GET NEW PILLOWS" because he is so frustrated at not having pillows to lay on (our couch is leather - you need a pillow/blanket to get comfy). I have 2 cream colored super large pillows that I got when we got married (7 years ago, my first BX purchase as a USAF wife ;) ) and 2 smaller yellow ones I got on sale at Pier One.

I'm talking cheap here. I can't believe I saw pillows at WAL-MART of all places for $20 EACH. :jawdrop

I don't want to run all over creation looking for $10 and under pillows, but I will to save the $$.

Here's what I'm thinking as far as places to look... Tuesday Morning, Ross, Marshalls, JoAnn Fabrics (??), and BIG Lots.

Other suggestions? I don't have a sewing machine... otherwise I'd try to make them myself.

Oh, and our couches look like this (with above mentioned pillows shown):

Thoughts??

I have big pillows I used on my day bed in my office that were actually Dog Beds I bought at Big Lots. They are still really nice. Pillows that big in other stores we saw for as much as 70.00. Pillows are not hard to make, though, if you want to do it really on the cheap.

I've never been there, but my hairdresser was telling me that Anna's Linens is CHEAP. Not sure if you have one in your area, but they have a store locator on their website: http://www.annaslinens.com/

Good luck!

another vote for tjmaxx.... i found some really pretty pillows for $12. :tu i also found some great ones at goodwill for .99, and i got two large, pretty napkins for 2.00 to cover them with. :) (napkins because i don't have to deal with cutting a such- i'm thinking i might even do it sew-free, using fusable webbing or whatever).

I found some huge ones at Joanne's (the craft store) on sale and they are super cute. They've held up pretty well. You have to catch it on sale, but I think we paid $5/each for them and they are big enough to be floor pillows.

JoAnns had some 25 inch pillows on sale for $10 each this weekend. Don't know if your JoAnns would have them, or still has them. They're pretty plain, but are colored. WE got some and are covering them with material we like better.

Cool!!! I do have annaslinens near-ish. I'll have to check to see where there is a TJMaxx and Joann's! Hubby will be SO happy when I get some new pillows!

Oh, and the plain-er the better for us. We are so boring. ;)

What with our Dessert Fawn walls, dark chocolate brown couches and cream carpet? I could to a pattern I suppose... :)

yeah, i think a nice pattern would rock....it seems like you have sleek, modern tastes, and there are certainly patterened pillows out there that would accent that...without taking you too far outside of your comfort zone ;) :giggle :poke

:yes i think we have the same couch, angela... and a nice soft pattern looks great with it. :tu i actually found our current couch pillows at - surprise! - goodwill for chicky chicky cheap. they aren't a pattern, but they are a cool retro lime velour that adds a nice pop of color.

i like the ones lauren posted. :tu

Lauren, some of those are awesome! Why tempt me with $25 pillows? :poke :lol J/k... I would never spend more than $5-10. ;)

Jen, is your couch Ikea by chance? lol

:yes We figured with all the people we have over (kids too) and our own kid(s) and dogs... it was a great buy. :) We've been really happy with it. It's been almost a year since we got them... I can't believe we've been here a year already! One year ago today I was living in a hotel... dying to get on GCM... having to find a way for the library to issue me a card without an address.... hahahaha. I'm SO glad those days are OVER! :yes

hahaha :giggle

if/when we move we are either going for microfiber (which i hear is also great and virtually stain-proof) or leather. these washable slipcovers....pain in the patoot. a big job to get them off, get them washed, get them ironed and get them back on.....and in the meantime?? nowhere to SIT!!!

zak
05-31-2007, 05:18 AM
Yeah, we liked microfiber too. My SIL has a nice overstuffed MF couch and LS set. She can literally take a damp cloth and get off most anything her 3 year old has put on there - food, drink, pen... and she has a baby... so baby pukes. :)

Jen, is your couch Ikea by chance? lol

:yes yep, same one (we have the full sized one). we got it in the as is, it had a small tear in the cushion, which turned into several HUGE tears.... but it was just in the one panel, i think it was a weak panel. :think anyway, we ended up asking someone in the as is dept, and he sold us 2 new cushion covers for that couch for TWENTY DOLLARS. :jawdrop ten bucks apiece.

i LOVE the couch.... our old couch got so nasty and i got tired of recovering it. this one you just wipe off. magnificent. :)

I <<<think>>> IKEA does have cheap pillows (less than $20) and they should be doing their clearance sale soon to make room for the fall collection.
