I've seen this on GCM a few times, but I've never heard of it. :O

To me, it's that time where you feel like you have no clue what's going on, whatever was working is no longer working, and you want to tear your hair out- generally a developmental leap is not far behind.

There are some ages when the child seems to be in a stage of
equilibrium, both with him or herself and with the people in
his or her world. In contrast, there are alternative stages
of disequilibrium when he or she appears to be unhappy,
confused, or out of sorts (Ilg, AMes & Baker 1981).

Both of those definitions describe Ellie most of the time. :(

The Ames & Ilg books have a little chart/graph/picture (not sure what to call it) where from the birthday to the half-birthday they are in disequillibrium, and then from the half-birthday to the birthday they are in equillibrium - it's a picture of a stretched out spring. :)

SO... for us... we are in the 2-2.5 year old phase... we are in disequillibrium. (Oh, and we are.... I can tell. :shifty )

I want to read that book, but I can't find it at the library and nobody in my AP group has the 1 year old book. I guess I should just buy it.

It's not an expensive book. They always have them at half price books. For most of my children the disequalibrium is the second half of their years, but for my child who was a super high-need baby, it's the six months after her birthday.
