I have a beautiful and otherwise incredibly healthy lemon tree that suddenly has white flies all over, especially on the lower branches. What are these and what can I do about it? I started trimming branches that I realized were close to the ground. Could that be part of the problem? I have lots of flowers but no fruit yet. I had a huge crop of lemons a couple of times last year.

From what I understand they are attracked to the yellow color. You can spray neem oil on them. I love this stuff. I use it myself for all kinds of things. But you cannot use it around cats, so if you have cats I would try something else.

Dowse the tree w/ dish water (we use dawn soap)

I would just mix 2 T of dish soap into a gl of water and pour over the buggy part of the tree. The watch to see if the bugs leave or migrate to another part of the tree.
If you are concerned how the tree with react then do a test branch.
