I'm in the market for a computer (currently don't have one at home). I"m willing to spend around $1000, but have no idea how much memory I should look for, etc. What are some of the basic "must-haves"? I'm going to be using it for internet surfing (of course! ;)) and plan to have high-speed access; some financial/budgeting software; all the usual Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Publisher, etc). I have a digital camera and would like to start using a photosharing site, too......things along those lines.

Suggestions?

Ok, The Techie says, She doesn't need much memory, really. I think 512 megabytes of RAM is enough. A 60-100 gigabyte hard drive is fine." A DVD RW drive will be important for putting photos on CDs and DVDs.
