I am needing some ideas for lunches on the go for ds...esp. for playgroup, but also for general errand- running purposes; sometimes it's nice not to have to go all the way home for lunch. So far, this is what I have taken:

sesame sticks and hummus
bananas
apples
kiwi
chopped fruit like cantaloupe
homemade trail mix (cereal, raisins, goldfish crackers, etc.)

And after that I am kind of :scratch over what to take. At home I don't have much of a problem with lunch, but on the go it's a challenge. What do you take for food on the run?

I will take anything. I usually have some kind of muffin or samosas. I have a 10 oz stainless steel thermos, so I can heat something up and take that. I always have a cliff or luna bar in my bag. I like Banana's and apple because they usually handle my abuse. I have a backpack that I carry during school hours and I don't like to lug around too much more than I have to. With that thermos I can take anything with me. It's small, too.

A thermos is a good idea. Why didn't I think of that? :doh That's totally how I brought hot food for lunch in my pre-microwave school days!

Are you talking out & about or snacks to keep thekids going? For out & about, we do a bottle bag, with cheese sticks, apple slices, mixed nuts, crackers. whatever I can think of. For field trip/picnic days, we do roll ups. Tortillas, cream cheese, ham, spinach all rolled up.

I will throw in natural peanut butter, all-fruit, bread or crackers or rice cakes, veggie booty, almonds, fruit leathers, granola bars, "just peas," and boxes of "vruit" juice. Sometimes yogurt with an ice pack. Several napkins and a towel, a knife and spoons.

I'm also :popcorn this thread for more ideas!

I love to make little skewers. If you don't have any dietary restrictions, then you could do turkey, cheese, etc. and another one with fruit. You can use blunt-ended skewers so its not dangerous.

Little wraps are good too. We can't make them anymore, but before ds was dianosed with his food allergy, we would do turkey wraps with cream cheese to hold it together.

We also like anything with graham crackers (peanut butter goes well).

My dd adores pasta salad, so that's another one we love :) We just eat it cold and I throw a ton of veggies in there!
