Okay, don't call the authorities or anything please. ;) I can't believe I'm showing you these. No one except my DH and my mom has ever seen my house this messy... And this isn't even all of it!! I didn't take pics of behind the computer tables or ds' room. It would be worse except that the dishes are done everyday(at least put in the dishwasher) so that I don't have to hear DH complain about it. I figured livng in a bigger house(bigger than our apt.) would mean less mess.. Guess not.. :(

Let me know if the pics are too big...

I like your house! Roomey and open. I live in a small row home. The mess is not as bad you think. :) I was thinking shelves would be great around the computer area. And shelves or other storage areas for the kitchen to declutter the cabnet space a little. Plenty of potential, though.

Not so bad mama. The sink looked clean :-). Seems to be mostly just clutter, not some unhealthy filth. I'm sure most of us have seen our houses in similiar shape now and again.

Yeah, shelves by the computer would be great. The way DH has it set up right now is really dumb, but he doesn't seem to care b/c he's not home enough to really need shelves and stuff..
It is mostly clutter. I don't know what to do w/any of it.

And obviously who-ever designed the kitchen was a man who never cooks.. LOL.. There is about a foot of space between the sink and the stove and about 1/2 foot on the other side of the stove and the end of the cabinet.. No space to work w/there at all, but it's not too bad.

I just have high expectations to live up to due to my MIL and SIL both being clean freaks...

Thank you for living in a house exactly like mine. :hug :highfive

Mine is much the same way. I'm not really happy about it either. For the first 10 years of our marriage, we lived in a really little duplex, and I wished for a nice home, roomy enough for a large family. Now that we're fortunate enough to have that it's still full of clutter -- I should be grateful enough for what I have to take care of it. :blush

Okay, sorry to hijack the thread. I just realy related to your pictures, and to what you wrote. :hugheart

I really love our new home , and I remember the day that I made this realization-- that I should take care of it out of gratitude.

Yeah, that!

It looks cluttered but not filthy.

You do have pretty windows and cabinets!

I bet if you took 15 minutes, you could have a huge improvement on your counters. I see mine and go :jawdrop and :cry but then I have to tell myself, OK, even just 5 minutes of just putting the cereal away, take out the recyclables, etc, will help a lot.

My kitchen was in good repair the night before last, but then we had two early mornings the past two days and now I am buried again.

Thank you for sharing!

Our house can go from picked up to cluttered in a minute. :hugheart

Can you start with a couple really small goals and add very slowly to them as you go? That's the only thing that works for me on eating healthy, so I'd think it would work for clutter, too. :hugheart Like maybe picking two places where you'll never, ever accept clutter. Maybe the kitchen table and the cabinet in the living room that has the red flowers. They both looked like they didn't have a whole lot to start with, so they might be the easiest for you to be successful with. :hug

At this point I'm honestly shocked if I walk into a house with kids under say 5 and the house is NOT cluttered. :shrug Just wanted to throw that out there. I think the period with little ones is just a never-ending battle against clutter, toys that get scattered, things that AREN'T toys treated as toys and dragged around, etc. :giggle

I've been in a lot of homes that look like yours, honestly. :hug Mine often does. :O

I was so busy looking at the pics, I just noticed this part!
If you are a messie, it just means more mess!
When we lived in our house half the size of this one, I still struggled, but I only had one real room to clean! The kitchen/living/dining were all the same, so it was tight but sooo much easier. I could have the entire house picked up and perfectly cleaned in a day. Here, the house is twice the size, not as open, and compartmentalized, and there is soooo much to keep up with. We have just sort of spread out! And it is so overwhelming for me, because I will work where I am and then move to the next room and be all :eek :doh :cry
I have been here for 2 years this November, and I still miss my old, small house! I keep telling DH we need to move back to it after the renters vacate!

:think I live in a tiny home (1080 sq feet, 1/3 of that basement) and it's really hard for me to keep it clean and organized just b/c there is sooooo little room. I was sort of hoping more space would solve that problem. :O I'm decluttering constantly but still feel like there's too much stuff!

RealLifeMama

Yeah, mine was 1080, too.
(no basement, though)
It did seem like there was no where to put stuff, but it really, really did not get any easier now that I am in a home twice that size.

I wanna live next to you mamas! I seem to know an inordinate number of immaculate people, which makes my house, which is about exactly the same state of clutter as those pictures up there, seem like a pigsty in comparison. I wanna live with people who know it's NORMAL to have clutter when you've got little ones. :grouphug

Yes and Yes!!!! If I came to your house I would be coming to see YOU, and your house could look however, if you were my friend I wouldn't care :hug

My motto is: "If you're coming to see me, come by anytime. If you're coming to see my house, please make an appointment." :blush
