zipper sizes

I've only done one zipper and it was 6 years ago! I've made a ringsling and want to add a pocket with a zipper. I also am making a bag for a friend and she'd like the closure to be a zipper. So I'm thinking I need a 14" zipper and a 15" zipper. They seem to come in standard sizes though from what I've seen on Joanne Fabrics website. Is this true? TIA.

Yes, zippers come in standard sizes. Like 16 inches, 28 inches, etc. In order to get a zipper just the right size, buy one a bit longer than you need, stitch across the teeth at the correct point for your project, and then cut off the excess. If you buy that standard zippers (Coats brand, I think) the instructions for doing this are inside the zipper package also. :)
