what are your super cheap meals? You know, when you have to cut your food budget to nearly nothing, but are still trying to get a 'balanced' meal?

Mine is SMURD. (Sarah and Matt's Utilitarian Rice Dish) It is basically 1 cup rice per person, served with 1 egg and any veggies on hand (usually carrots/broccoli) seasoned w/ soy sauce. We developed SMURD when we were teaching ESL in Japan. We'd just arrived and had to wait 6 weeks before our first paycheck, with only a few hundred dollars to our names. It didn't originally have eggs, but after eating it for 3-4 dys we started CRAVING protein!

What have you got?

Our cheap dish is pasta with tomato sauce. One package of pasta, cooked and topped with one can of tomato sauce, some Italian seasoning, and parmesean cheese. Less than a dollar to feed the family. :tu
