Am I wrong in assuming that any foundation or make up that I find at Wild Oats or Whole Foods is vegan? I am looking for a new foundation. My old one is irritating my skin. In fact, it seems like a lot of things are irritating my skin and my eyes lately. Not sure what that is about. Here is another question about anti-consumerism. If a person who practices anti-consumerism needs to purchase make-up, what do they use? Perhaps they just don't use any - not sure. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Check for a vegetarian label and honey, beeswax etc. I think most things are safe if they are labeled vegetarian and have no bee products. Sometimes they have cow's milk in them, like lotions. Do they have a counter?

I didn't use makeup before, but my mom bought me the Bare Minerals and it has been great for my Rosacea. My skin has greatly improved and it covers any flare ups nicely. I don't really have a choice at this point. I need to insure that it doesn't get worse because there is no cure for it. It does last a long time and I have no idea if it's vegan.

Thank you, Heather. Yes this helps a bunch. I will check that website. You asked if they have a counter. I am not exactly sure what you are talking about. If you mean Whole Foods or Wild Oats - they have a tester area, yes. If you are talking about my old cosmetics, they are in salons I believe. I have never purchased make up at a HFS before. I just thought I would try. I was thinking of Burts Bees Tinted Moisturizer, but it most likely has bee products in it. I am assuming their company is avoided by vegans. I had never thought about bees as being something avoided by vegans. Wow I have a lot to learn.

I just noticed that Whole Foods sometimes has a little counter in the cosmetic area. I'm not sure if others do, just the ones I have been to.

I personally don't wear make-up, and have never met a vegetarian or vegan who did (but admittedly there are not many in my area, and the ones who ARE are very anti-mainstream and quite "earthy" :rockon myself included) :giggle - BUT that being said, I do realize make-up is pretty important to some people, so I did a search on vegan cosmetics, and here's a great link I came up with:

Hope this helps! ;)

Heather- FWIW, I have read some great things about roseacea being treated with GSE compresses. Don't know if you've tried that or not, but I would definately give it a shot if it were me.

And some good news- the product called "Bare Minerals" made by the company Bare Escentuals IS indeed vegan from what I have read. :tu

Thanks for the information. I hate wearing makeup, but I am so surprised and the improvement. It doesn't look like I am wearing makeup, it just looks like I have clear beautiful skin. :tu
