I've heard this mentioned, but haven't seen it. Is it permanent?

I've done it! I did a wool diaper cover, it works on natural fabrics. I used a couple of pkgs of the unsweetened koolaid, with about 2 cups of water and maybe a 1/4c of white vinegar. First, soak what you are going to dye. Then put in dye, let it soak in. I threw it in the microwave for...um, 3 minute, let sit, then again (iirc). Then rinse like mad - after it cools.

The results:

Oh - and why you need to use gloves! ;)

oh - FTR, I used strawberry and threw in a pkg of cherry. I actually liked it better before the cherry was added in. I would love to try orange but can't justify buying another cover. :O

I've got one thats slightly stained, so I'm hoping it will make it less noticeable. Do you think it would work on cotton too? I might like to have a rainbow of prefolds. :tu

i've read that the kool aid dye will only work on animal proteins (silk, wool, eggs, etc) i have done playsilks but nothing else... (off topic - if and when dc#2 comes, i think i'm going to try to convince dh that we need fluff instead of sposies - just because of all the cute cute dipes i see here and on the bbb board!)

also - a link to the site i used for my dyeing directions:
