I was looking at Father's Day cards the other day, and they are SOOOO small. My dad has trouble reading, and I KNOW that frustrates him to no end. If i make him a card, is there a rule of thumb for the font size for someone who's visually impaired?

Camille, I've been thinking about this all day. I have memories of those large type Reader's Digests that sem to always be flopped around at Dr.'s offices, old folks homes, etc. If you know what I'me referring to, that font size might be good.

Other than that, my only advice is.......bigger/bolder? ;)

(ducking to avoid whatever you will now throw at me!)

The CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) makes these recommendations:

Use Arial or other plain, sans serif fonts.
Font size should be at least 14 point.
Large-print fonts range from 16-20 point.
Material should be printed in black ink on white paper.
Print on non-glossy paper to avoid glare.

Hope that helps!

My father only has sight in one eye, and he has trouble reading things written on coloured paper, or with coloured ink. Something like silver ink on red paper is difficult for him.

You would think that card companies would take older readers into account...
