Tracing a pattern from an existing garment...

I found a pair of overalls that fit over DS’ cloth nappies and I’d like to sew something like it.

I’ve looked at the different parts of the overalls, traced each part out on paper and added ½ inch for seam allowance.

Is this the way to go about it?
