getting rid of spearmint

I have a spearmint problem and don't want to use chemicals because I'm going to grow vegetables in the same place. Any ideas on how to get rid of it? Pulling it up didn't work, it came back.

If you can get a large dog to dig a hole right where it is, that seemed to do the trick for us. :shifty Otherwise I've never been a :/ble to get rid of it.

LOL my gran killed hers by planting garlic by it. I don't know if thats what you're supposed to do.......but it worked for her! You could try covering the area, denying them light may kill them. They are one of those plants that has a root network like grass right? So you may have to contain it by putting up a border of some kind.
