I've been a vegetarian for about a year and a half. I thinking of adding limited fish back in for versatility and also because my good cholesterol is too low, even though I exercise and take an Omega supplement. What do you all think? Tell me why I should/shouldn't.

Have you read "Becoming Vegan"? In there, she talks about how vegetarians and vegans sometimes have lower HDL because HDL is needed to carry out the animal fats, and if you don't have animal fats, then your body doesn't need as much HDL. She says that its not necessarily a bad thing though. I can try to find where she talks about it...

I hadn't heard that. It makes perfect sense though. I think I have a book called Becoming Vegetarian, maybe it's in there, too. I'll look. Thanks!

Here's what it says:

pg. 58 "The primary function of HDL is the removal of excess cholestorol from the bloodstream. When there is less cholestorol to remove, there is less need for HDL cholesterol. Thus, a drop in HDL is not always detrimental to health."
