Hansa Roses

I want to plant something in my backyard to be a privacy/shade hedge and was reading about these roses. They sound beautiful, hardy, and tall. Has anyone any experience with them? Do they have thorns? The hedge would be on the inside of my fence where my children play and could fall into occassionally. :shifty My backyard is very sunny! I am also in zone 3.

I want my backyard to tansform into a shady, private place to siesta. Currently it is open, so sunny and hot and opportunte for my crazy Jack Russell to bark at any dog/person/leaf he sees in a 1/2 mile radius. Our new neighbor also has a dog and ours and theirs are not being neighborly. Thought a hedge might help.

Any thoughts? Any better ideas? Lilacs?
