My grandma was just told by her doctor that if her iron doesn't raise in the next week she'll need a transfusion. So, we have one week to build her iron.

What do you suggest?

She was taking Floradix(?) and we're worried it's not strong enough.

There are some molasses tablets that a ND gave me--maybe do a search for that? And Whole Foods brand iron is the most absorbable and easily digested from my experience.

Start chowing on the beef and chicken liver....If you fry it and smother it with mashed potatoes, it's not too bad (that's what I ate while in the hospital after childbirth when I almost needed a transfusion). :heart

That's one of the problems. She's not eating much. She's always had a small appetite, but now it's miniscule. I'll let her know, though!

Crystal...I'll check out that link. I'm probably going to go to Mother's for her tomorrow...which is a local healthy-grocery store. They have there own label that is excellent...like Whole Foods, only priced better. :tu I'll take this information with me.

i've struggled with anemia through out my adult life. no supplements really helped that much until my naturopath gave me "Iron Plex" by PhysioLogics. i'm not 100% sure what part of it makes it different but it has vit c, folic acid, vit b12 and iron as ferrous bio-glycinate. it has worked for me.

"Iron Plex" by PhysioLogics I will second this. But as somebody that constantly needs transfusions, there are times when no supplement will work, in that case I am :pray please keep us updated.
