changing pad

So, I want to make a changing pad to match the diaper bag I'm sewing, what do I put in the middle? Just some batting, or should I use a protective layer? With my first child, I never had any accidents when changing her, so I'm thinking the pad is mainly to keep the baby comfy and not touching questionable surfaces while changing them outside the house.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I would just use some batting. You could try to add a waterproof layer in there somewhere...but I've never had ds spring a leak while out.
