Hi Everyone - Guess this is a multi-age topic- don't know where else to post this - but anyway I have read Vicki Iovine's books from the Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy to the her latest, The Girlfriends Guide to Getting your Groove Back. In her first books she talks about Ferberizing her four-six month old babies, sad times for her and her babies. In her later books she not only confesses to co-sleeping a lot of the time, but talks about how much she loves it. It's nice to see a positive change!

That is good to hear! :tu So CIO is never presented positively?

no, sadly, she talks about how it took three days for her baby to "learn to put themselves asleep" in the GF guide to the first year....
her books are really fun though - she doesn't go for spanking or handslapping, and cio is not welcome the first few months. i'm not pro-cio, i could never do that to my baby, but i really love the refreshing takes she has on motherhood and sisterhood. she's also completely opposed to divorce - not something you usually find in secular books.

I enjoyed her books when my oldest was a baby. They were a nice "break." It really was sort of like having a talk with your girlfriend. I wouldn't read them for parenting advice, but they're fun.

I've enjoyed the series. I wouldn't have just them on my bookshelf - say, instead of Dr. Sears - but it was nice to read a personal account that made me and my family feel normal. :)

One thing I noticed is she's quick to wean, she bf'ed her youngest for 6 weeks (According to Guide to the 1st year). But I'm glad she doesn't go for punitive punishment.
That was my sanity saver during my pregnancy to get away from the What To Expect and stuff...before I'd discovered Dr. Sears

I remember her saying three weeks!!! It helps me laugh about things too. I literally tossed out my What to Expect books, but these are a lot of fun. They're like friends I wish I had.

Her books gave me a much-needed laugh during my pgs. I just wonder how many new moms followed her cio prescription, then were disappointed when she confessed in her last book that it didn't really work very well. :(

I gotta agree--for a quick read, the books are a lot of fun. But in Girlfriend's Guide to the First Year one thing really bothered me.
In one part of the book, she said that she didn't exercise at all with her first and that she exercised a ton with her last, but her weight loss was the same. So, according to her, it doesn't matter whether you exercise or not for four months (I think it was four). In another part of the book she says she breastfed the first, and only breasfed the last for a few weeks, and her weight loss was the same. So, according to her, there is no weight loss associated with breastfeeding.
I wonder why she never put two and two together?

Wow. I didn't catch that! Too funny. And sad.
