I'm trying to find a pattern or just instructions to make a plain(no frills) fleece hat for my ds. Our neighbor kitted one for him but I think it makes his head itch. He hates to wear it. (he really does like to wear hats.)

measure his head and split it in half. then draw on a peice of paper the shape you want it, also making sure you have enough space for it to sit on his head ;) leaving room also for seam allowances. if it helps you can cut 2 peices out and pin it or tape it to make sure it fits. ;)

cut it out of fleece and sew it up :) you can line it with fleece (making sure you give space on your pattern for that as well) or you can cuff it.

does this help or is it more confusing :O I know Im not the most articulate :O

Can you line the knit hat with a soft material?

sorry.. yes you can line it with whatever, but it would need the same type of stretch.

I never thought of lining it. Good idea.

Irene, your instructions were great. I think I might just try both.

Here's a very, very simple pattern: http://jas.familyfun.go.com/crafts?page=CraftDisplay&craftid=10034

You can google "fleece hat pattern free" and come up with lots of free patterns on-line.
