beagle tummy is bright pink?

My 2 year old female beagle's (neutered) tummy is bright pink on one side, it doesn't look rashy just very hot pink and she doesn' t want me to touch it. I don't notice her licking it or anything. A vet visit would not be good $$ unless necessary. Any ideas what it could be? The other side of her belly is a normal light pink and I can scratch her there.
I thought about putting ointment on it of some kind but she would just lick it off and I don't want to poison her!

I would recommend you take her in to the vet. Since it is a hot pink color and she doesn't want you to touch it, there may be some sort of infection there like a hot spot. Your vet can check it out and give you medication (if needed) that will be safe for your dog.

Beagles seem to tend toward skin problems. I agree that you should probably take her to the vet.
