We have a large (70+lbs) chocolate lab names Theodore Roosevelt (Teddy). He is so gentle with the kids and we love him dearly.
Last week, a van I didn't recognize drove in to the yard. Teddy started barking to beat the band. I went out to check on the situation because he usually lets people get out and then sniffs them up and down. The man saw me coming and yelled, "I wasn't sure if your dog would bite." Now, Teddy has never bitten anybody, but I've never seen him like that. He was snarling and barking with his hackles raised. I thought it better to go toward the man and tell him that, yes the dog would bite.
He left quickly. Later I told my MIL who said there had been a man going around posing as an electrician who was robbing the homes. Don't know if it was the same guy or not, but I was so glad I didn't have to find out. (I know he wasn't from our electric co.)
