I bought a box of Junior Mints today. It's been a while since I had any. Well, I thought to check the label before I popped one in my mouth and saw "soya albumin." So is this seriously egg? :( I'd love for someone to tell me it's not egg, but from my quick 'net search, it looks like it is. :cry Truman doesn't tolerate my eating eggs. Well, at least he didn't 6 months ago, and I'm not ready to try again. So I guess the girls can eat the Junior Mints?! :hissyfit :hissyfit :hissyfit I thought I had a nice little treat. I've already given up Snickers. :hissyfit :hissyfit

Albumin is egg right?

But, what about the soya part? I don't see them on Peta's list either. But, I thought they had gelatin in them?

I do know that I saw a recipe for raw vegan peppermint patties. But, I can't find it now. That would be a good replacement.

I love Junior mints. I think the last time I ate some was at least a year ago. I couldn't help myself :blush

they do have gelatin in them. i try to ignore that fact, as i don't eat them often, and they are incredibly hard to resist.

i'm guessing the soya part has something to do with soy. :shrug i just don't know.

thanks for your thoughts, too, and for the link/ideas!! :)

Potato Candy how strange is that? Maybe you could add some peppermint to the filling. Maybe I'll get bored this week.

Allright I'm already bored and my dh is working his tail off and I never get to see him and I can't stop thinking about Junior Mints now..thank you.

MMMM. . . this actually sounds good. Now I'm singing "boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew" :giggle

Hey, though. . . what's vegan powdered sugar? Is powdered sugar seriously not vegan? I don't want to go read the ingred. list. (as in, I just want to ignore it) I don't use powdered sugar that often, but is it that terrible or can I close my eyes when I use it? LOL

and I can't stop thinking about Junior Mints now..thank you.

Ooops! Sorry. :grin

There is cane sugar and beet sugar. I think it's cane sugar that is somehow put through bone ashes or some strange ritual. So, many vegans won't use it? Anyone?

But, I don't believe that is true of evaporated cane juice or sucanat etc. Just the white stuff at the market.

So, if you find yourself worried about that you can put your choice of safe sugar in the blender and make powdered sugar yourself.

mmmmmmmm still thinking about Junior Mints

This is kind of a funny little site, but it answers some of the vegan/sugar questions.

We make potato candy with 1/4 t of potato, and about a pound of confectioner's sugar. It makes a dough that you roll out and can put any kind of stuff on. I like peanutbutter best. You roll it up into a log and slice it to eat. YUM!

I don't think soya albumin is egg...I think it's soy...albumin is part of the soybean or seed. Check this site out:

OK, I made the potato candy from the last link (Heather posted), and it's yummy!! :yum

In fact, I think I could use half of the potato mixture with the amt. of chocolate in the recipe, as it's very sweet!

Allison, now that I know what I'm doing, I may try to add different toppings! Thanks for the idea!
