what's the advantage of the mei tei over the snuggli? i love ring slings and use them most, and i've also got a pouch (tube sling.) i'm thinking of getting a mei tei, but i've already got a snuggli someone gave me, and don't want to spend the $ on a mei tei if it's basically the same concept, kwim?

I have a Snuggli pouch too (ty to the consignment shop!), so I cant wait to read responses.

I'm new here. This is actually my first real post besides my introductions. :)

I have both a mei tai and a Snugli. I've read that with a Snugli since the baby's legs hang straight down it can be bad for his/her pelvis and hips. I read this on another message board and will try to find a reference for the info (I'll post it later when I do).

I've found that my mei tai is so much more comfortable than the Snugli. Mine has wide straps that more evenly distribute the weight of my 17 lb. 6.5 month old. I can wear him in it for hours without my back hurting. He actually will sleep for a few hours in it in the afternoon for his nap. With the Snugli, my back would start to hurt after an hour or two - and that was when ds was much smaller.

Basically, I would suggest you spend the money on a mei tai. It's worth it, imo! HTH!

Well, most babies out grow Snuglis pretty quickly... you can carry a 30 lb toddler in a Mei Tei, so it's really most cost-effective. :) Babies in snuglis just look uncomfortable to me!

Mei Tais are also *so* adjustable. They do have a bit of a learning curve, more so, I think than a ring sling, but once you get it down, you'll love it. And unlike a snuggli it can very safely be used as a back pack, and still be very very comfy. It can also be used as a hip carrier, and as a front carrier, it can be used front facing in *or* out. Endless possibilities. :)

I don't know if she's a member here, tbh, but Kelley Mason of Kozy Carriers (http://www.kozycarrier.homestead.com/Index.html) makes wonderful Mei Tais, and I found this Message Board through her Enter Gently (http://www.geocities.com/entergently/) website, after I bought a Mei Tai from her.

If you do decide to buy from someone else, still check out her site for extensive instructions with great step by step pics. :)

Which leads me to ask, does anyone have a used mei tei that I can buy?

I don't personally have a used one to sell, however, if you felt like joining another message board, there is a "for sale or trade" forum at TheBabyWearer.com (http://thebabywearer.com/) which is also a great place to read reviews on a number of Mei Tais, as well as other carriers, there's also a yahoo group called babywearingswap. I don't have enough posts to see the swap forum on this board, but if you do, you should check there too, like the pp said. :)
