Dh and I had a bunch of bottles to return at the drugstore for recycling, so we loaded up the wagon and I put DS on my back in the wrap and we set off.
Iowa has a lot of immigrants from Sudan and a few other African countries. (Many years ago, the Governor took steps to encourage Sudanese and Bosnian refugees to settle here and they have.)
So as we were waiting at the counter, an African woman approached me and DS and was interacting with him a little, then said to me in a very thick accent - "He is lucky baby." I thanked her and said I was a lucky mama. She said "That how we carry our babies in Africa." I said that I thought it was about time us Americans started carring our babies this way too. She didn't understand me, shook her head, smiled, and said "on back - we carry our babies on back." I just nodded and said "it's great!"
