This year we have some volunteer squash from last year's plants. The plants last year were F1 hybrid Acorn Squash.

Here are a few pics of the squash plants this year. We think they are producing two kinds of fruit. One of them is the yellow big thing and the other ones are higher on the plant(so far) and look more like acorn squash.

Does anyone recognize the type of squash the yellow one might be?
Would you eat squash off of these plants? That is, if you were the squash-eating sort?

I've seen this in the store and even bought it but can't for the life of me remember what it is called. I'd probably at least try it, provided it wasn't in an area that was sprayed w/ something toxic or anything. I'd cook it like you do the acorn squash. :)

It looks as thought your squash has cross polinated. It would be okay to eat. I get that when I plant the zucchini and yellow squash too close.
