prefolds to prefitteds?

Did sewing up your prefolds as prefitteds make a difference in abosrbancy? Thickness? I was thinking of trying it out just to simplify diapering a bit more (I hate messing with folding while you have a naked squirmy little one on the ground) but am wondering if it really works out. What method did you use to do it? Did it cut down on the length of time your child could wear them because of measurements?

I own a prefold turned side snapping fitted and it works great. It definitely absorbs just about as much (it's from a premium prefold). I am planning on using it as a template to make more. I am lazy and probably won't put snaps in (no snap press), maybe some touchtape but probably just use a snappi. It'd still be easier than dealing with the huge, bulky premium prefolds.

It does probably reduce the usability time frame somewhat. I plan on making six and keeping six or so plain prefolds as back-up (I have some other fitteds and pockets, too)
