I'm pretty sure we're going to begin homeschooling my niece this next year. She's struggling in public school and lacks the discipline to write her assignments down and actually do them. We've given her mini-goals to work towards and given her organizational tools, spoken to her teachers, its just not happening.

Right now we're going with Saxon math (what she uses now), Abeka grammar and science and possibly spanish. What else do we need/should we have for a 9th grader? TIA!

History, literature, maybe some kind of government/economics

I homeschooled a 9th grader eons ago. Do you have a Bible study already? And you need patience. :D If I could do it over again, I would try and do a unit study approach, to combine subjects.

She'll be starting her high school credits, so you'll need to find out what she's required to have in order to graduate, am I right?

Someone tell us where to look to find this out...the school guidance counselor maybe?

Usually, any curriculum you follow (Bob Jones comes to mind) will have a list of what kind of credits are required for graduation. Or, the school system itself should have something, maybe online.

I recently discovered that my county's public school's curriculum is on the internet -- available to any ol' body that wants to look. You might find some useful info there: http://www.mcps.k12.md.us/departments/dci/.

If your school's curriculum is on the internet, you might check into it. If you think you may want your child back in the schools after a period of personal instruction, you might want to try to follow it somewhat.
