It does look like it would be a better sunblock than most other ones. If I remember correctly, titanium dioxide and zinc oxide do work as a barrier on the skin, protecting it from the sun. I remember those things are preferable to sunblocks without either one.

But chemical free? I see that it makes that claim... But looking at that ingredient list sure doesn't make it appear chemical free... :shrug I guess I don't know what is defined as a chemical, but it still has a lot of unpronounceable ingredients...

I'd also be curious as to what defines a sunblock as organic? :shrug

Just for comparison . . . this is what we use

http://californiababy.com/spfsuncare.html

I've been pleased with all of the California Baby products that I've used.

It's label says that it is free of chemical sunscreens. I have a bottle in the bathroom so if you'd like me to list the ingredients in a post, let me know.

We bought some from Nature's Gate. It's a natural sunsblock and is SPF30.

Here's a link to it. http://www.internatural-alternative-health.com/ingr/ingr250890.cfm

I paid a little more than that for it at the health food store, but it works really well! Yesterday dd and I were outside for several hours playing in the water and dirt. She didn't get pink at all! I on the other hand did without sunblock and my back and face are pretty colored today. :O

What is the deal with PABA? I see a lot of labels that say "PABA-free". :shrug
I have used California Baby before and liked it. I need to find the ingredient list.

Here's an article I found about estrogenic chemicals in sunscreens:

This is the info I found on PABA

The PABA story.

Mackie , Mackie LE Prince Henry Hospital, Sydney, Australia.

The qualities of para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA)
are discussed and an account is given of how it
came to be the favorite sunscreen of the post
World War II era. Slowly, however,
dermatologists became aware that it was a
fairly common sensitizer and that it tended to
cross-sensitize with compounds of similar
chemical structure both in contact with the skin and
given as systemic drugs. Furthermore, continued
exposure to chemicals of this type could lead to
autoimmune responses especially systemic lupus
erythematosus and dermatomyositis. Discussion
of these complications from the use of PABA
took place at two meetings of the Dermatological
Association of Australia in 1964 and 1965, and
played a part in the slow withdrawal of PABA
from sunscreens.
