at bible study thursday night, a sweet woman shared how worried she used to be about her son who "didn't obey when he turned one"

she said she "did everything the book said, (she) smacked his little hand".. i know she used babywise - she recommended it to me...

i think it's a little sad because she is a nice lady, and it seems like she really went against her instincts to use this book...

p.s. dh called ezzo's book "starving kids god's way" :P

That is sad! :( Probably most of the behavior she whacked his hand for was normal one-year-old stuff. :(

*sigh*

While Babywise II / Prep for the Toddler Years doesn't get as much attention as BW and GKGW, I think it's one of the more harmful of the Ezzo books. I look back at my oldest--he was a sweet toddler, mostly obedient--and yet I thought I needed to "train" him so much. My punitive parenting techniques were completely unnecessary.

I'm sure it's hard for that mama--having the pressure (from within, from the Christian culture, from peers) to do something a certain way, and yet it feeling so wrong.
