In the thread about "Teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons" mommyTay mentioned Phonics Pathways. Can anyone tell me more about this? What previous knowledge base should a child have before starting it? Is it scripted? (I think 100 easy lessons is scripted isn't it?) Any other valuable info or comments?
TIA!

It is very simple. You use flash cards to teach the sounds of the vowels first. Then do one page at a time till they have it mastered. The first part of the book teaches one consonant at a time, blending it with the vowels that they have already learned. Sample page http://www.dorbooks.com/twoletter.html
Each page builds from the last.

Better idea, check out their website. http://www.dorbooks.com/phonics.html

I'm going to start it w/ my 4yo bc it doesn't require writing. She wants to learn to read, and I think it will be a gentle approach for her.

I like phonics pathways better than 100 ez lessons . It is a good program for little ones, and for teaching them how their eyes should track. I used it at the beginning with my oldest, and he's 9 and reading novels.

(I'm really glad, too, Tay that it worked for you guys)

I have another program I use now that I like better, but it takes time to figure it out and use it. I don't think I personally would like using it for anything younger than first grade.

Thanks all! I'll have to check this out. It sounds like a great option.
