I desperately need to do a word study for this - one, for presentation to family, and two, because I "keep" things better that I have processed and writen down rather than just read. Has anyone who has done this have any advice that might help me along the way, or make it faster *laugh*?? Resources you would recommend? Thanks!!

It was actually put together by an online friend, Joan, who was a big time Pearl and Ezzo advocate but didn't ever feel right about spanking--only believed devoutly that she must. She met some people online who said they were Christians and also said they didn't believe in spanking :wow She was directed to my pcap list (which was Joanne's at the time :) ) and she came to prove us wrong but secretly hoping we could prove our point ;) She kept wanting me to *prove* my point to her and everything I offered wasn't what she was wanting so I finally suggested that she do the research and tell me what she found :lol She disappeared for two weeks and came back with the Rod study and a non-spanking home :highfive

www.blueletterbible.org (http://www.blueletterbible.org) has tons of great resources online, if you hate digging through a bunch of books like I do. :)

www.crosswalk.com (http://www.crosswalk.com) has good lexicons too. Just click on the "Bible study tools" on the right. :D

Another Mom who did her own study and concluded that the Bible does NOT mandate spanking. She has some interesting thoughts.

Thanks guys!! I began my own "rod" word study after reading in Dr Sear's Discipline book that the Bible does not actually condone spankings. Since the day my son was born, I have been dreading the day when I would "have to" spank him, and have been putting it off and putting it off because the thought of spanking just feels wrong and my heart feels crushed when I see someone spanking their child. However, I had been told that spanking was "God's way". Thank goodness I hadn't started yet! God brought the right info at the right time to save my son from being spanked. Anyways, I am not one to just accept someone else's words so I started my own study...I am still not finished but am now convinced of GBD. I plan to complete my study though simply to be able to have information to give to other people who ask why I am doing (or should I say "not doing") what I am. Your findings will definitely help me out!
