Any advice about sewing chiffon that I should know? Special thread? Pressure foot? Feed dogs? I am not much of a sewer but it's been a good tensioni reliever and we have a couple girls coming up in ballet that need costumes sewn, so I get to.

Experiment first. I would probably use a ball point needle, and ONLY 100% polyester thread. The cotton wrapped poly is for the birds.

Sounds like lots of girly fun though! :cool

This spring is packed with fun stuff. My dd has a part in the choir program for kids and I just "winged" putting together some bird costumes for that. I have to finish them which is fun with a teething Zoe. That's next Sunday :wow

The ballet recital, show, whatever it's called is the end of May, I think so there's plenty of time to figure this out. I have to do an angel costume and a kitty costume (my dd is one of six for "Three Little Kitties"

chiffon is "crawly" and it unravels easily so how you finish your edges and seems is very important. If you have a serger that would be ideal. If not its time to learn how to make a french seam if you don't already know. That way the raw edges are enclosed and can't unravel.

I'm not the best seamstress in the world but one of my early projects was with chiffon (dumb choice for me as a beginner but hey I learned a lot) and I remember those two properties.

I have made lots of ballet skirts. Do you have a pattern to go from? I can help you with this if needed. If you are making circle skirts, they're probably 1 piece. If not, and you have to piece together with side or back seams, you need to use a french seam, or the fabric will unravel and fray. The seam will pull out. French seams aren't as difficult as they look. PM me if you need help figuring them out. You can do a rolled hem on the lower edge. The edge does need to be contained. If you have a hemmer foot, this is fast and easy.

I decided for the sake of sanity to hire it out :blush .

It was a circle skirt, though, and they didn't french seam them *shrug*. The nice lady that puts them together showed me how to do it, but I decided I didn't have time to get it done, which was probably smart on my part.
