YEp we were told the GT LT sign was an allagators mouth and the mouth was always open to the bigger "meal" or umber.

Awww, that's cute =) I grew up with the bully theory, the big one was pointing at the little one saying "I'm bigger than you."

I grew up with the alligator's mouth, too. And one teacher told us to think of it as an ice cream cone. More ice cream would fit in the larger part of the cone, less ice cream would fit in the smaller part. I think I was in college before I could just say that < is less than, without having to see numbers. It was a hard concept for me to verbalize, even though it's easy to understand.
